Domaine Naturaliste

The Story

Bruce Dukes, an agronomist and winemaker, started Domaine Naturaliste in 2012 and owns 35 hectares in Wilyabrub, Margaret River. The vineyards are situated 7km from the Indian ocean which provides a maritime climate with cool wet winters and warm summers, a prized combination for grape growing. The vineyards are farmed sustainably, certified by Sustainable Wine Growing Australia. Cover crops in the vineyards add organic matter and fertilizer, which also assists drainage of the decomposed granite soils. Their sustainable philosophy continues in the winery that is fitted with solar panels, thick insulating walls to reduce the need for energy and a zero-emission wastewater treatment system. Margaret River is known for producing ripe and balanced wines that are true to their varietal, Domaine Naturaliste emanates and overdelivers at its price points. - Jennifer Docherty, Master of Wine

1. Best Value Winery Of The Year 2020 by James Halliday's Wine Companion

"This year’s Best Value Winery follows suit with beautiful, balanced wines, particularly cabernet and chardonnay, at extremely reasonable prices. Domaine Naturaliste is the brand of winemaker Bruce Dukes, who has been making top Western Australian wines via his consultancy business for decades. Now, he’s investing some of that talent and energy into a label and range of his own. " James Halliday

2.  Promoter of  Sustainable Farming

Bruce studied Agricultural Science at the University of Western Australia that helped him instilled core values and approaches to sustainable farming practices. This approach was based on seeking to understanding biological systems. Sustainability systems in the vineyards are focused towards achieving healthy soils and healthy vines, as a result, better wines. Domaine Naturaliste is one of the first in Margaret River to be certified sustainable by Entwine Australia in 2010. This certification is now called Sustainable Winegrowing Australia.
