Marc De Grazia established Tenuta delle Terre Nere in 2002 wanting to make the ‘Burgundy of the Mediterranean’. Fifteen hectares of vines are planted on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, largely old vine Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio on volcanic soils. The vineyards range from 600-1000m in altitude so the wines are always fresh and delicate, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly with the altitude preserving natural acidity.
